Lexington, Virginia, founded in 1778, is
one of the Shenandoah Valley’s most preserved
towns. You will never run out of things to do or see in what many consider
one of America’s
best small towns and certainly one of its friendliest. Famous Civil War
Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas ‘’Stonewall’’ Jackson
both lived here and both are buried here. Lee Chapel and the ‘’Stonewall’’ Jackson
House are open for tours. Washington & Lee
University and Virginia Military Institute are
both located in town. The George
C. Marshall Museum honors the noted
World War II General, guided tours of the VMI post
are
offered daily.
Carriage tours are
offered April through Oct. There’s
lots of quaint shops in town including the award-winning Cocoa Mill chocolate
shop. Nightly ghost walks are available in the warmer months. Hot
air balloon rides are available, the Lime
Kiln Theatre offers outstanding plays and music concerts.
Natural Bridge, once owned by Thomas Jefferson and surveyed by George
Washington, is close by. The stunning 215 foot high bridge of solid limestone
spans a small stream with a trail. Caverns closely are also open for
subterranean exploration 400’ down. The scenic Blue Ridge Parkway
is 11 miles east of Lexington, the Appalachian Trail is also nearby.
The Lexington area makes a great home base for exploring all of the
history and natural beauty we have here, scenic drives are always popular. The
Rockbridge Vineyard is open year round. A working
mill (Wades Mill) and yarn
shop are closeby.
Natural beauty surrounds Lexington, nearby Goshen Pass ranks as one
of Virginia’s
most beautiful unspoiled natural areas as the Maury River winds it way
through this scenic boulder strewn whitewater gorge.
Hiking, fishing , canoeing golfing and
many more outdoor opportunities are close by. Numerous hiking trails
including the Chessie rails to trails walk, waterfalls and vistas are
sure to create a memorable outdoor experience. The
Virginia Horse Center is a world class facility with weekly
events. The Safari Park drive zoo is fun for the whole family, Hull’s
Drive In is open in the warmer months. The Lexington Visitor
Center is the friendliest around.
Antique lovers will love strolling through 2 malls totaling 60,000 square
feet here. The Trans-American Bike Rt 76 passes through the county, cyclists
have many scenic loops to consider and enjoy. Several craft shops and
artist’s studios are in the area.
Motorcyclists have many options for mountain loop rides including
the scenic Virginia By-way Rt. 39. Your dedicated hosts of our 3 member

activities and events and are guaranteed to help get the most out here.
